(Washington, D.C.) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to investigate and recover illegal firearms in Washington D.C. through intelligence-based policing to identify, interdict, and interrupt armed violent offenders within the District. In addition to our patrol officers, members from several of MPD’s specialized units work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off our streets. From Monday, October 16, 2023, through Monday, October 23, 2023, MPD detectives and officers recovered 77 firearms in the District of Columbia.

A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in I-695 Southbound/I-295 Southbound, Southwest. CCN: 23-170-379
A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 700 block of Shepherd Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 22-year-old Hamza Jemal Seid, of Northwest, D.C., for Pistol Violation and Counterfeit Tags. CCN: 23-170-731
A German Sports GSG-5 .22 caliber rifle was recovered in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old Dezmond Hayes, of Fort Washington, MD, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Recklessly Endangering a Child’s Physical, Mental, or Emotional Health, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. A Springfield Armory XD-9 9mm caliber handgun and a .223 caliber “Ghost Gun” assault rifle were recovered in the intersection of Oak Drive and Poplar Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 32-year-old Ni’jhae Curry, of Southeast, D.C., for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Intent to do Bodily Harm without Just Cause, Carrying a Rifle or Shotgun outside a Home or Business, National Firearms Act, Endangerment with a Firearm, Simple Assault, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the intersection of 41st Street and East Capitol Street, Northeast. CCN: 23-171-158
A SCCY Industries CPX-1 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 500 block of 51st Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 43-year-old Kenneth Dwayne Ferguson, of Northeast, D.C., for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. A Walther PPKS .380 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast. The following people were arrested: 27-year-old Vernon Lamar Spriggs, of Southeast, D.C., and 30-year-old Anthony Maurice Thomas, of Northeast, D.C., for Consumption of Marijuana in a Public Space Prohibited, Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
