MPD recovered 38 guns in DC from July 1st - July 8 [PR]

Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, July 1, 2019, through Monday, July 8, 2019, MPD detectives and officers recovered 38 firearms in the District of Columbia.

A Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 200 block of 34th Street, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 28-year-old Amber Latesha Pride, of Southeast, D.C., 51-year-old James Casey Melvin, of Southeast, D.C., 50-year-old Joseph Lee Melvin, of Northeast, D.C., 49-year-old Erika Glenita Thompson, of no fixed address, and 50-year-old Donnell Edward Evans, of no fixed address, for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Bench Warrant, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance. A Smith & Wesson Springfield .40 caliber revolver was recovered in the 3300 block of Wheeler Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Christopher Norece Mitchell, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License. CCN: 19-115-376
A Smith & Wesson 38 Special .38 caliber revolver was recovered in the 6000 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest. CCN: 19-115-429
A SCCY CPX2 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5500 block of Bass Place, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Jazmine Edwards, of Roanoke Rapid, NC, for Threats to Bodily Harm, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Threat to Kidnap or Injure a Person, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. A Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 600 block of Condon Terrace, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 40-year-old Anthony Hager, of Hyattsville, MD, 27-year-old John F. Prince, of Southeast, D.C., and 31-year-old Cordel Price, of Southeast, D.C., for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Probation Violation, Fugitive from Justice, and Felon in Possession.
