You should be following #BlackWomenAtWork

Of all the Twitter hashtags I follow,  #BlackWomenAtWork speaks to me in such an honest and vulnerable way (who isn't afraid to tweet/retweet in case that causes another #BlackWomenAtWork moment). The struggle is real and it occurs more often than our non-Black colleagues/bosses/friends could every understand.

It's about time we take these moments, incidents of frustration and misunderstanding out of the shadows and into the light. As Black women we have all had a Maxine Waters or April Ryan moment at some point in our careers. I don't know a woman of color (or a man of color) who has not encountered micro-aggressions in the workplace. The fact that we have to smile through it, carry on, and keep our lips shut when it happens doesn't make it any less hurtful, frustrating or demoralizing.
