District Residents:

As an affordable housing developer with more than 25 properties in D.C., Maryland and Virginia—including 11 properties in D.C.’s Ward 8—we take safety concerns on and off of our properties seriously.

We at Community Preservation and Development Corporation (CPDC), along with a team of local organizations all dedicated to building safe, sustainable neighborhoods, are currently conducting a Public Safety Survey intended to improve safety and resident-police relationships across D.C. communities.

We can’t do it alone. Feedback and real experiences from D.C. residents will be the foundation for effective solutions. You can help by taking and sharing our Public Safety Survey. To receive the survey link to your cell phone, text “iamsafe” to 313131; to complete the survey online go to http:/bit.ly/DCsafety.

The mission of CPDC’s safety initiative “Collaborating for Prevention” is to: engage youth and adult residents and neighbors; law enforcement; and community resources on CPDC properties and the surrounding neighborhoods in the process of creating (1) a platform for residents to be engaged in the security and safety of their communities and (2) a vehicle for ongoing safety strategy development and implementation.

We believe that when residents and neighbors are provided education, capacity building, relevant tools and opportunities to connect, they will create deeper relationships, build trust and work together to address concerns in their community.

Our goals are to:
• Establish a baseline of community perception of safety with and trust of the Metropolitan Police Department
• Convene stakeholders to ensure safety of the community
• Build trust among civilians and law enforcement
• Provide a platform for residents to engage in community policing strategy design
• Engage youth in positive out of school time activities
• Increase the presence of law enforcement in community ‘hot spots’
