LUMEN8 FESTIVAL'S CLOSING PARTY FEATURES
GOGO, GLOW, DISCO, AND SOME FUNK
ARCH Development Corporation is proud to announce the lineup for the LUMEN8ANACOSTIA finale. The Festival, which opened June 22, aims to literally light up (Lumen) Ward 8 (8) through arts.
The August 10 LUMEN8 finale runs from 6:30 pm until 11:00 pm at two locations: Honfleur Gallery and the Anacostia Arts Center (1241 and 1231 Good Hope Road SE). The event is FREE and open to the public.
The night starts at 6:30 pm at Honfleur Gallery with the presentation of the second annual East of the River Distinguished Artist Award to Luis Peralta Del Valle. Presentation with award panelists will occur promptly at 7 pm. Honfleur's exhibit Mynd Up by BK ADAMS * I AM ART and The Gallery at Vivid Solutions' exhibit Chocolate City Rest in Peace by photographer Steven M. Cummings will be on view until 7:30 pm.
Events continue at the new Anacostia Arts Center starting at 7:30 with live music, light-up dance performances, art exhibitions, a pop-up restaurant from Los Verracos-serving reasonably priced Jerk Chicken, Jerk Tofu, Mint Limeade, and delicious Alfajores for dessert, and free chair massages from the advanced students at Potomac Massage Training Institute.
The Afro Funk All Stars will open the Center at 7:30 pm with a set of Afro-Cuban funk and jazz. Ras Lidj and Deep Band will play starting at 9 pm, combining the vibes of Roots Reggae with Dancehall and DC's own Go-Go scene to create the genre they call "Regg'Go." Lighting up the late-set at 10 pm is the queer discopunk band Glitterlust, known for its light show, wild costumes, and interactive performances.
In between the music, performers Strange Powers and Ben Drexler will be hooping and spinning LED elements to light up the black box theatre. After dark, dancers Eleni Grove and Matina Phillips electrify the Lounge with lighted human tableaux.
Exhibits at the Anacostia Arts Center include Elsabé Dixon's interactive Wings, Weaving, and Worms; paintings from Gustavo Diaz Sosa; Film. Still: Ward 8 Students Abroad curated by BRAY Creative and Nomenclature; the Anacostia Art Gallery and Boutique, featuring art from the African Diaspora; and for the night internationally recognized neon artist Craig Kraft will literally brighten the Anacostia Arts Center.
LUMEN8ANACOSTIA is funded in part by the DC Office of Planning and a grant from DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Washington City Paper, Hill Rag and East of the River are media partners for this event.
