DPR TO DISTRIBUTE BOX LUNCHES AT 6 SITES TODAY
MEDIA UPDATE.
REVISED NOON UPDATE: Food Distribution Sites Opened, D.C. Public Schools Remain Closed, Power Being Restored
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – With thousands of residents across the District of Columbia still without power due to the effects of Friday night’s storms, Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced that the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will begin distributing boxed lunches to the public at six sites today, beginning at 11:00 a.m. (Details in DPR section below.)
In addition, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) opened its Free Summer Meals Program (FSMP) today, to serve meals to District infants and children up to age 18 or with disabilities. (Details in OSSE section below.)
D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) remain closed today, as storm recovery efforts continue following yesterday’s state of emergency declaration. DCPS students and staff assigned to summer school should not report. Also, DCPS schools are NOT open for use by other community-based organizations (CBOs) or programs, including Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) participants assigned to DCPS campuses.

POTOMAC ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY (PEPCO) Update
As of 9:45 a.m. today, PEPCO reported 19,136 customers in the District of Columbia were without service – a significant improvement over the same period yesterday. The outages were distributed as follows:
•19,070 residential/business establishments
•0 health facilities (nursing facilities, hospitals, and community clinics)
•0 Federal government buildings
•57 traffic signals
•9 public schools
PEPCO’s focus of restoration as of 9:45 a.m. will include:
•Subtransmission Line Outages
•Distribution Feeder-based restoration
Resources deployed on PEPCO System - DC & MD
About 1,700 field restoration personnel have been deployed including:
•700 power-line personnel from out of state;
•450 tree-trimming personnel;
•320 overhead-line contractors;
•119 internal PEPCO line crew members; and
•140 internal underground and substation personnel
In addition, about 265 personnel are mobilized to answer customer calls and about 700 personnel are supporting the restoration efforts in other roles. Call 1-877-737-2662 and follow the prompts to report a downed wire or an outage.

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has posted a listing of citywide Free Summer Meals Program (FSMP) sites open to serve up to two meals a day to District infants and children up to age 18 or with disabilities.
Identification is not required, and those arriving at the distribution locations during the posted time will be served meals free of charge, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, family responsibilities, political affiliation, disability, source of income, or place of residence or business.
