Baltimore’s Windup Space bringing New Clear Daze to DC

The New Clear Daze exhibit is an exploration of similarities and differences in the work of four emerging Baltimore visual artists.  In collaboration with Baltimore’s performing and visual arts venue, The Windup Space, Honfleur Gallery is pleased to present the work of David Fair, Matt Bovie, Eamon Espey, and Andrew Liang.  New Clear Daze focuses heavily on color and pattern in their work, yet each has their own unique and visceral approach.   Alongside the visual art, the opening reception will feature music by acclaimed musician Nathan Bell (formerly of Lungfish) & Jeff Barsky (Insect Factory.)

Andrew Liang's work translates his daily experiences into visual metaphors.  Andrew is motivated by the writings of Alexandre Dumas and studying the compositions of print masters Kuniyoshi and Yoshitoshi while dreaming of traveling the world.  Liang was born in Taichung City, Taiwan and in 1993 moved to the United States.  He has been living in Baltimore, Maryland since 1998.  

Eamon Espey self-publishes the comic series Wormdye and co-founded Mount Olympus Society. His work has appeared in Critical Citadel, Free Radicals, and The Spitting Anorexic.  Espey obtained a Bachelors Degree in Cartooning from the School of Visual Arts. 

David Fair is a long-time paper cut artist. He shares an aesthetic and sense of humor with his brother, Jad Fair. He and Jad are founding members of the legendary band Half Japanese.  He has appeared in films that include “The Band That Would Be King,” “The Devil and Daniel Johnston”, and “Everybody Loves the Tinklers.”  His artwork is found on album covers, books, magazines, t-shirts, post cards and has been displayed in galleries in New York, San Francisco, Paris, France, Waxahatchi, Texas as well as Baltimore, Thurmont and Westminster, Maryland.

Matt Bovie first gained notortiety during his college years as a contributing member of Rhino, an independant comic zine.   In recent years, he has established himself in Baltimore as a prolific illustrator and collagist with a "primitive and primal pop" aesthetic.  Matt can make a mess out of anything.  Bovie has recently exhibited at Gallery 1448, Artscape, Joseph Meyerhoff  Symphony Hall, Meredith Gallery, G-Spot and The Windup Space in Baltimore.

The exhibition will run from April 15th to May 20th, 2011, with an opening reception on Friday April 15th at 7pm.  New Clear Daze will run in conjunction with another exhibition in historic Anacostia,  Destino by Michelle Frankfurter, opening April 15th at 6pm, at The Gallery at Vivid Solutions (located at 2207 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, W DC 20020).
