I'm Kat and I love Columbia Heights. I love my neighborhood and the people who live there. I love that there are so many different genres of cultures, walking around exploring each other. I love your pug, that poodle and your fat baby. I love Pleasant Pops. Oh, I also love your solar panels. Those are great! I love the variety of farmer's markets within a 10 minute walk of my house. I love that I can go sledding in the winter and kite flying in the summer. I love that you love keepin' it local. I love Room 11. I love that the Circulator comes every 15 minutes (most of the time). I love that my favorite vegan bakery, Sticky Fingers sells the best chicken sandwich around. I love bike lanes and street art. And the stuff I don't love? Well, I think we can all come together and find a way to fix it so that we can love it. If not? We can improve it. I'm sure of it.
I am running for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner because I want to give back to the community that has given me so much. I LOVE Columbia Heights. I am running for Commissioner because our community deserves better - because I know we can improve issues of public safety, tenant/housing rights and how we treat the environment. I've put a lot of time into the content of my issues page (where I break everything down). The basics? I think that together we can work towards innovative, comprehensive and strategic plans centered on outreach, awareness and resident input that create solutions to many of the problems in my community.
