WASHINGTON INFORMER: Old Congress Heights School Gets Facelift

The Washington Informer has an article about the ground breaking at the Old Congress Heights School on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Congress Heights.  Mayor Fenty, Councl member Barry, Valerie Santos, Phinis Jones and Imagine Southeast Public Charter School Principal Stacy Scott were at the ground breaking.

Excerpt:
"This school has been abandoned and an eyesore for 27 years on this corner,: said [Phinis] Jones, who has lived in Southeast for 40 years and has been a business owner in Congress Heights for more than 30 years.  "It will be totally renovated; and not only will it alleviate the blight but it will be used by the community, as well."

Jones said Imagine Southeast Public Charter School plans to relocate from its current location in a church across the street.  The school will use the building during the day and the community will have access in the evenings and on weekends.  The builiding wil also house a cafeteria, he said that will be available to the community for meetings, special events and weddings.
I wrote about this project before when the press release was first released, and I had some questions.  Primarily how the development group, District Development Group, LLC in charge of the redevelopment of the project had their business licence revoked. At least one of my questoins has been resolved.  According to the DCRA website the District Development Group, LLC currently has an active busines license.
