Volunteers Wanted | Frederick Douglass NHS Oratorical Contest

The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site seeks volunteers to judge this year’s Frederick Douglass Oratorical Contest! The event sees students delivering one of Douglass’s iconic speeches from memory while judges evaluate and select winners for each age category using an established rubric.

While not required, prior experience in theatre/performing arts, public speaking, education, and/or history is ideal. Additionally, judges must read and understand all historical and contextual materials provided, including speech transcripts.

Panels consist of 4-6 judges, so what are you waiting for? Learn more and apply on volunteer.gov today to be part of this unique event and see history come to life!
