An interactive full-day workshop for grades 9-12! Explore the concept behind "dap" and how the Black man's handshake creates and sustains a sense of community. Participants will analyze photographs, practice photography, and conduct interviews, incorporating their experience with dap to define the gesture and its importance in Black culture. With the guidance of photographers Joseph Edwards and Ed Underwood, students will explore Anacostia as photojournalists, telling the story of dap in the community to create a mini-exhibit featuring interviews with local artists, activists, and entrepreneurs from Anacostia, Congress Heights, and Stronghold. Breakfast and lunch provided. This event is free, but registration is required.
