TRAFFIC ADVISORY | Temporary Single Lane Closure of I-295 for Five Weeks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 6, 2022

(Washington, D.C.) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement alternating single-lane closures (southbound and northbound) I-295 by the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge. Work will begin June 6, 2022 between the hours of 9:00am to 2:30pm weather permitting.

The closure will be in place for approximately 5 weeks, weather permitting.

These closures are necessary to install two (2) caissons and to move an electrical pole that are right next to I-295 for the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project.

Once completed, the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Kenilworth Avenue, NE (DC-295) and adjacent service roads with a new bridge with increased vertical clearance and ADA compliant ramps, as well as improving the bridge’s structural integrity.
