The MLK Gateway Enlightened project is moving along and up

The corner of Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue has had a storied life. There was the mural to honor murdered children, a public art project, a cave-in, another public art project and now the site along with several adjacent storefronts are under development. A community evolves in many different ways so it’s interesting to see how this site’s next chapter will play in the role of Historic Anacostia’s story. Including some recent snaps. For those of you unfamiliar with the development plans for the MLK Gateway project I’m sharing some details from the MLK Gateway website.

HOW IT STARTED

HOW IT’S GOING TO END UP

The MLK Gateway Project will be a two-phased development.

The first phase will comprise 20,000 square feet of office above 14,600 square feet of community-facing retail. The second phase will comprise approximately 130,000 +/- square feet mixed-use buildings.

In 2016, Mayor Bowser issued an RFP seeking partners to redevelop what is now known as the first phase of the Project. A development team led by the Menkiti Group was selected and broke ground on the Project in December of 2019. The first phase is projected to deliver in the first quarter of 2021.
