Words are a tricky thing. Sometimes we bestow them with far too much power and authority. But there are moments when the collective “We” seek to take back power from those words that have victimized and degraded us. It’s with this aim that Dick Gregory’s million-copy plus bestselling memoir, Nigger: An Autobiography, was birthed into this world. “Powerful and ugly and beautiful…[Nigger is] a moving story of a man who deeply wants a world without malice and hate and is doing something about it.”

Join the MahoganyBooks | Very Smart Brothas book club during the month of August as we read Dick Gregory’s seminal work, Nigger: An Autobiography. We will meet to discuss the book on September 3, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at our Anacostia location. We look forward to a conversation befitting of the great Dick Gregory’s wit, intelligence, and commitment to community.

Rest in Power, Brother Gregory!

The discussion will take place on September 3rd from 6PM -8PM EST at MahoganyBooks, located at 1231 Good Hope Rd., SE Washington, DC 20020.
