Join us for a discussion with Lauren Pearlman, author of "Democracy's Capital: Black Political Power in Washington, D.C., 1960s-1970s." In conversation with Samir Meghelli, senior curator at the Anacostia Community Museum, Pearlman will discuss her book and the history of Black political power in DC. Pearlman is an assistant professor of history at the University of Florida. Her book, "Democracy’s Capital," examines the transition from black protest to black political power in Washington, DC, under the Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon administrations and against the backdrop of local battles over the War on Poverty and the War on Crime.
This event is part of an ongoing "A Right to the City" Author Talk series with American University's Metropolitan Policy Center and the DC Public Library. The event will stream live on Facebook (via DCPL page).
