MPD’s Weekly Firearm Recoveries:
December 9, 2019 to December 16, 2019

(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, December 9, 2019, through Monday, December 16, 2019, MPD detectives and officers recovered 50 firearms in the District of Columbia.

  • A Marlin 60 .22 caliber rifle, a Western Auto .40 gauge pump shotgun, a Charter Arms .32 caliber revolver, a BKA 98 .38 caliber revolver, and a Crossman 38C BB gun were recovered in the 4300 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Northwest. CCN: 19-220-071

  • A Smith & Wesson M&P P15 5.56 caliber assault rifle and a Smith & Wesson SW40VE .40 caliber handgun were recovered in the 2900 block of North Capitol Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 24-year-old Carl Courtney, of no fixed address, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Carrying a Rifle or Shotgun outside of Home or Business, and Presence in a Motor Vehicle Containing a Firearm. CCN: 19-220-190

  • A Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard .38 caliber revolver, a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm caliber handgun, and a Smith & Wesson Performance Center .44 caliber revolver were recovered in the 1500 block of 18th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 34-year-old Anthony Earl Chiles, of Southeast, D.C., for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. CCN: 19-220-114
