[PR] MPD Officer Involved Shooting: 1500 Block of Morris Road, SE

Agents from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, in the 1500 block of Morris Road, Southeast.
At approximately 2:16 am, uniformed patrol officers attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of Suitland Parkway and Stanton Road, Southeast. The vehicle fled and became disabled after striking a curb. The driver exited the vehicle in the 1500 block of Morris Road, Southeast, and fled on foot.
During the foot pursuit, the suspect brandished a handgun and fired at MPD officers. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect fled into the wooded area. Another uniformed officer encountered the suspect and discharged his firearm. The suspect was subsequently apprehended.
The suspect and the officers were not injured as a result of the gunfire. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy. Responding officers activated their body worn cameras. That footage is currently under review.
On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, 31 year-old John Raymond Hudson, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer while Armed (Gun), Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Carrying a Pistol Without a License, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.
