Tyrone Mazyck of Washington, D.C., was arrested yesterday on a warrant obtained by the Humane Rescue Alliance and charged with cruelty to animals for allegedly neglecting and cruelly beating his three dogs.

On March 3, 2020, Humane Law Enforcement officers with HRA executed a search and seizure warrant at Mazyck’s home and rescued three dogs from the premises. On scene, officers found two of the dogs living in small crates filled with various objects, including cinder blocks, a crowbar and a broken dog crate pan, as well as their own waste, causing unsafe and unsanitary conditions. At least two of the dogs were underweight and showed obvious signs of neglect.

The investigation began when a member of the public reported that the dogs were being neglected and physically abused on the 1900 block of Bennett Place NE. Over the course of the investigation, HRA officers determined that the dogs had been physically abused on multiple occasions, with some incidents ranging back as far as two months.

The dogs are in the care of HRA and doing well; they will remain in HRA’s care for the duration of the criminal case.
