[PR] Arrest Made in a Homicide: 700 Block of 24th Street, NE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Saturday, January 11, 2020, in the 700 block of 24th Street, Northeast.
At approximately 8:03 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male, inside of a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.
On Sunday, January 12, 2020, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 41 year-old Tavon Cox, of Baltimore, MD.
On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 23 year-old Knico Wheaton, of Southwest, DC, was arrested by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
