Office of Unified Communications seeks Computer Assistant - $41k to $54k
This position is located in the Office of Unified Communications (OUC), Technology Division. The OUC Technology Division is responsible for managing all Public Safety Communications Systems for the District of Columbia, including Radio Communications, 911 telephony, Computer-Aided Dispatch system network (CAD), Voice Recording, and LAN/WAN systems. The division is charged with the responsibility of ensuring communications and operability for the OUC, DC residents, first responders, customer agencies in the District and surrounding jurisdictions, and visitors to the District annually.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Office of Information Technology, providing support for the PC/LAN environment assisting with end users. The duties will include but are not limited to assisting with the storage, maintenance, and distribution of hardware and IT peripherals, work with the Help Desk Coordinator to discern, troubleshoot and provide first level technical support for end users, work with the Hardware Coordinator to back-up, refresh, and redistribute desktop systems, maintains internal IT property inventory database. assist LAN Administrator in establishing new network and e-mail accounts, attend computer-training, conferences, meetings and seminars in order to maintain a current knowledge of state-of-the art technologies. He/she will provides standards to users, provides implementation assistance, and forwards recommendations concerning all requests to the appropriate technical level of support. provide or analyze data using computer systems or applications.
He/she will perform a range of standard computer related duties in operating; controlling and correcting commonly encountered error conditions. The result of the work assists in uninterrupted computer processing by the end user served. The work also provides timely products; and assures proper interconnections and functionality between the servers; and end users and the connected devices. He/she will organize and carry out assignments, coordinating work with others, determining the approach and methodology to be used, and keeps the supervisor apprised of potential problems. The incumbent will utilize a variety of resources, both on-line and in office that describes various methodologies and procedures related to troubleshooting and maintaining computer equipment.
