Office of the Peoples Counsel seeks Community Outreach Specialist - $49k to $63k

This position is located in the Office of the Peoples Counsel, Water Division. The incumbent of this position is responsible for coordinating and providing outreach and education programs to the District of Columbia DC water consumers.

The primary purpose of this position is to investigate and resolve consumer complaints as they relate to water issues and concerns. The incumbent develops, builds and maintains relationships with key community leaders including Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, Civic and Citizens Association and their members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Incumbent serves as the liaison under the Water Division for Consumer Outreach. Provides residents and partners with water trends and critical issues that can or are affecting the District’s water consumers.

  • Provides educational information to the benefactors regarding water issues. Conducts investigations, handles negotiations and resolves complaints.

  • Works collaboratively with the staff at DC Water to assist in resolving issues and complaints.

  • Works closely with executive members to support their outreach activities outreach events in coordination with Peoples Counsel personnel, DC government partners, and/or community-based organizations partners.

  • Coordinates with the agency Public Information Officer to develop supporting correspondence and educational materials needed for outreach events.

  • Prepares reports, presentations, articles, and other correspondence about public water topics.

  • Plans, implements, and supports the outreach programs and events including providing advice, project direction, and assistance in promoting the agency to community-based stakeholders.

  • Provides information to support evaluations of organizational outreach with the goal of increasing awareness of the Peoples Counsel mission and services.

  • Coordinates and/or participates in a number of community outreach activities, to include, but not limited to, community meetings, workshops, activities, etc. Coordinates the outreach schedules to establish relationships with other D.C. agencies and community-based organizations.
