MPD temporarily closes Mart Liquor in response to murder of 6-year old

As a result of Friday night’s tragic shooting that took the life of 6-year-old Nyiah Courtney and injured several others, MPD has closed the liquor store located at the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard, SE, and Malcolm X Avenue. The closure is temporary and is not to exceed 96 hours per signage outside of the building.

Many may recall that community members (The Advoc8te included) have petitioned ABRA for years to close the liquor store because of safety concerns. In addition, the liquor store is feet away from a federal park that has long been a source of anxiety and frustration in the Congress Heights neighborhood.
