MPD 7D | Arrest Made in a Homicide: 1100 b/o Bellevue Street, SE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Sunday, January 31, 2021, in the 1100 block of Bellevue Street, Southeast.
At approximately 12:21 am, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a woman down on the sidewalk. Upon arrival, members located an adult female victim, suffering from a severe laceration. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The decedent has been identified as 30-year-old Brenea Audrice Franklin, of Southeast, DC.
On Friday, April 2, 2021, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 43-year-old James Lewis, of no fixed address, was arrested by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
