May 25 | MelaNation Zine Release Party
It’s been a long time coming, and BYP100 DC is releasing our fourth issue of MelaNation Zine, ‘sex n’ stuff.’ We’re throwing a summertime function to celebrate, and tickets are now ready and open. We hope all of y’all come. <3
This issue explores sex positivity, pleasure, pro heauxism, and affirmation for Black people, especially those who are women, femmes, gender nonconforming, and TLGBQIA+. We’re bringing you paintings, screenprints, poetry, essays, and more from Black artists and writers based in the DMV. We also have a feature on the illustrious local Black-owned sex shop Secret Pleasures Boutique, and a playlist of love songs and pantydroppers from DMV-based Black musical artists.
Taking place during DC's historic Black Pride week, our release party is gonna bring you performances from Black singers, rappers, and poets; you’ll have an opportunity to view artwork from MelaNation contributors; and we’re gonna have speakers from the DECRIMNOW campaign talk about justice for sex workers and sex hustlers. We'll also have a short OPEN MIC portion, so be sure to practice your favorite poems and songs.
Physical copies of ‘sex n’ stuff’ will be available, and most of all, the function is gonna be full of love and pleasure.
Tickets are on a sliding scale from $5 - $20, based on whatever you’re able to give! Purchasers of $20 tickets will receive complimentary buttons and stickers. The party will be at The Fridge in DC, which is located close to the Eastern Market Metro Station. You can get directions to the venue at www.thefridgedc.com/visit/.
The venue is wheelchair accessible.
We’ll see y’all soon!
