At Martha’s Table, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity for his or her brightest future and a family and community deeply committed to their success. The organization values a “roll up your sleeves attitude” and a “joy in the day and joy in the work” approach in an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We believe in the power of community – a strong community.  For almost 40 years, we have offered a continuum of support — through which we offer access to healthy food, family and community supports, and quality education — to strengthen the lives of children and their families, and build stronger, healthier communities.

Position Summary

The Director, Volunteer Engagement is a strong, innovative leader who is passionate about volunteerism and the benefits it brings to organizations and individuals. Historically, Martha’s Table enlists the support of volunteers to staff more than 18,000 unique volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are a part of the fabric of Martha’s Table and are essential to the organization’s ability to carry out its mission. Through volunteer engagement:  365 days per year, a healthy, delicious hot meal is prepared daily and delivered on McKenna’s Wagon; more than 6000 children and their families, in 53 elementary schools in Wards 7 and 8, are able to have a joyful experience while shopping for fresh produce and pantry items each month at no cost; every month we can open our mini markets at the Commons and the Maycroft to more than 1000 community members who shop, at no cost, for fresh produce and pantry items.

As we move toward deeper community engagement and impact, this new leader leads the charge to refine and deepen the volunteer experience as well as increase the number of volunteers who live in the communities where Martha’s Table executes programs. The Director will develop and guide the implementation of a  robust strategy for volunteer engagement, recruitment and retention. He/she will also engage internal and external stakeholders and program partners for feedback while championing impact and innovation in our work and communities of interest.
