March 16 | Sisters with Clippers: True Stories from Black Women Barbers
For one night, the Dap Project asks DC’s Black women barbers to lay down their clippers, pick up a mic, and tell their story.
The barbershop: the Black man’s country club, where barber and client talk smack, throw shade, feel seen. This is the image we expect to see when we reach for the silver door handle, and hear the chimes ring, announcing arrival and prompting a welcome. A round of dap exchanged before settling in.
Enter Black women barbers: clippers and wit razor sharp, love real, respect commanded. Do we know this story?
Hosted by comedian and producer Paris Sashay, this evening will be a powerful moment of storytelling by Black women about their journeys and triumphs as barbers. Artist J’Nell Jordan will capture the words onto canvas in live action painting. We are overjoyed to hold this event at the Congress Heights Arts and Culture Center.
Doors Open : 6:30pm
Program Starts: 7pm
