We are looking for proven leaders with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for customer service and market operations to join our management team in our Ward 8 location.

The Healthy Markets, Operations Manager I will be responsible for:

  • Overall management responsibilities for the day to day Healthy Market operations, which includes ~30 pop-up monthly markets in elementary schools (that are run using our traditional market model focusing on access to healthy food plus education around healthy food) and developing a new “Stay and Play” model that emphases the joy of food through hands-on education and a caring, committed community.  
  • This Manager will need to ensure a high degree of customer service, training and development of a team of Healthy Market Leader, market conditions, and performance management with an emphasis on building a highly engaged, high performing team. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Managing a team of Healthy Market Leaders and providing support and guidance as needed.
    • Mentor and coach team, providing feedback when issues arise, scheduling team and staffing for markets.
    • Working in close partnership and collaboration with the Director, Healthy Markets and other program leaders to continuously plan for success and ensure markets are executed without issue, and program staff are scheduled and cross-trained accordingly.  
    • Oversee the execution of two direct food distribution models to ensure they joyfully achieve objective to ensure families living in communities of interest of have increase access healthy food and healthy eating and cooking supports.
    • Manage hiring process and personnel/time and attendance procedure for staff
    • Provide reliable and sound direction to team and staff to address operations issues (i.e.: when food doesn’t show up on time).
    • Use data to modify the market experience and make markets more efficient and more joyful.
    • Work closely with school partners and the team to develop new, impactful and efficient additional programs to support healthy eating among children and their families.
    • Maintain, in partnership with Director, Healthy Markets, a strong relationship with the CAFB for food inventory, quality and issues.

Requirements (this is a managerial level position with senior experience in specific skills and college level training required):

  • 2-4 years of experience working as a manager or team lead in a retail setting, preferably in a perishable, grocery, and/or big box retail store OR non-profit focused on food access/food justice. 
  • Flexible, adaptable, and customer-focused, with a commitment to high standards of food, service, and operation.
  • Commitment to the Martha’s Table mission.
  • Exemplary character and judgement.
  • Detailed oriented and data driven.
  • A strong understanding of both "front" and "back of house" operations.
  • Experience in kitchen and food preparation operations is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in training, developing, and coaching staff at all levels
  • Must have experience managing a team of direct reports.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with scheduling, retail front-end/office management, ordering, inventory management, project management, and human resource management.
  • Must be willing/able to work required hours, travel and take assignments throughout Wards 7 & 8.
  • Business related Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership/team building and organizational skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must be willing and able to step in at markets to help.
  • Must be comfortable regularly lifting 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Fluency in all Google platforms (email, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
