JOB ALERT | Director of Community Connection - $80k to $85k

The Director of Community Connection leads organizational work that sits at the intersection of animal welfare and community need in the DC region. The Director works in partnership with the community and community organizations to understand and address gaps in pet-related services and resources and to correct imbalances in opportunities to interact positively with animals of all kinds. The Director works collaboratively across the organization to develop and execute programs, and to identify and resolve resource needs to fulfill HRA’s mission in community-centered mission. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Services

  • Lead organization-wide efforts to provide direct pet support services, information and resource referrals to individuals by working collaboratively across the organization.

  • Lead the determination of organizational processes and policies regarding such issues as participant and program requirements, program benefits, and multiple access points.

Community Collaboration and Service Evaluation

  • Establish, build and maintain strong relationships with citizen, government, business and other community-based organizations to understand their perspective, navigate challenges, build broad support for the work of HRA and establish mutually beneficial partnerships that address community needs and expectations and that ensure services are not duplicated.

  • Develop processes to seek input from community members in order to fully understand perspectives and values, identify gaps in desired pet-related services; and increase opportunities for positive interactions with animals of all types; use this feedback to guide service and program development.

  • Determine appropriate metrics to track to gauge success and identify areas for adjustment of how, when and where HRA can best serve its community.

  • Create and implement a system for soliciting formal and informal service delivery feedback and use this data for continuous improvement of HRA programs and services offered to the community.

  • Coordinate training, engagement and recognition events with community partner groups, individuals and agencies.

  • Represent HRA on committees and task forces.

  • Serve as organizational spokesperson to media when appropriate.

  • Evaluate the work of staff and volunteers to ensure that programs are of appropriate quality and that resources are used effectively.
