JOB ALERT | Director of Communications and Marketing - $140,000 to $160,000/year

(Hybrid Full-Time Position in Oakland, CA; Los Angeles, CA; or Washington, DC)

Impact Justice seeks an experienced marketing and communications professional to help guide the organization’s public-facing efforts in shifting narratives about safety and justice and establishing Impact Justice as a distinctive, innovative, and trustworthy organization pushing the boundaries of justice reform. Reporting directly to the President of Impact Justice, this individual is the senior professional leading a small communications and marketing team.

The ideal candidate is an expert storyteller and communicator, both orally and in writing, who also understands how to market new ideas and programs. They have experience with earned and paid media, are savvy about how to make the most of all forms of digital communications, think in terms of audiences and users, and can pull disparate information into a cohesive, on-brand message.

Working collaboratively with program leads and other subject experts, this individual has designed and carried out strategic communications and marketing plans that advance programmatic goals and growth, shape public opinion, and attract new supporters, partners, and allies. They are a skilled manager of staff, capably leading an internal team, while also successfully managing consultants and firms.

The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, creative, and collaborative environment, and demonstrates from the outset an ability to be both strategic and hands-on, driving results across multiple programs/initiatives. The successful candidate is someone who can bring thoughtful, imaginative ideas to any discussion while also helping to carry out the ideas, plans, and decisions of their colleagues. They are passionate about social justice and attracted to IJ’s mission in particular; they approach new information and new people from a place of curiosity, empathy, and humility; and they support a workplace culture that values the diverse perspectives of employees at all levels.

That said, we know there are great candidates who may not think they fit into what we’ve described above or who have important skills we haven’t thought of. If that is you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself! And if you’re a formerly incarcerated individual, someone who has a family member who is or has been incarcerated, or otherwise have direct experience with the criminal legal or juvenile legal systems, we will be particularly excited to hear from you.

Impact Justice is committed to providing opportunities to all job applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, age, criminal history, disability, or genetics. The organization strongly encourages people of color, individuals who identify as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer communities, and individuals impacted by the legal system to join the team.
