The Classroom Support Staff Teacher works under the guidance and direction of the Lead Teacher, and as such under direction, is responsible for assisting in providing program-based services to enrolled children and their families. These services include: supporting the implementation of lesson plans, supporting the creation of a rich and engaging learning environment for their students and other services related to providing quality services for school age children and their families.  The Classroom Support Staff teacher must perform all other duties as prescribed in the DCMR-9, NAEYC, COA and DC Standards of Learning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of the Martha’s Table Healthy Start Curriculum and developing developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
  • Assist in providing activities to support families in their role as caregivers and educators.
  • Assist in the implementation of IFSP/IEP goals for children with special needs.
  • Assist in conducting on-going assessments/anecdotal notes daily in all program/developmental areas.
  • Assist in the health and safety of the children in the classroom and outdoors, including field trips.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and materials to ensure good condition.
  • Responsible for maintaining space and design plans.
  • Responsible for performing other duties as assigned.

Family and Community Partnerships - assist the Instructor in the following:

  • Encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program.
  • Participate in all scheduled program activities.

Program Design and Structure - assist the Instructor in the following:

  • Attend pre-service and in-service training sessions as scheduled
  • Attend at least 30 hours of training per school year.
  • Participate in monthly program-wide staff meetings.
  • Participate in monthly classroom team meetings.
  • Participate in community events.

Other/Administrative - assist the Instructor in the following:

  • Complete daily on-going attendance and meal count forms.
  • Ensure all forms are completed and filed.
  • Accident report form.
  • Comply with all rules and regulations as outlined in the Licensing Standards, NAEYC Standards, COA Standards, DC Standards of Learning, the Healthy Start Staff Handbook and the Martha’s Table Employee Handbook.

Education:

  • At least twenty-four (24) credit hours from an accredited college or university, plus demonstrated skill and competence with young children as satisfactorily determined by the leadership.

Experience:

  • At least one or two years’ experience working with school aged children.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred.

Special Training/Skills: Must have the ability to care for children in a warm, supportive manner 

Licensure/Certifications: Meet the licensing requirements pertaining to CPR, first aid and universal precaution requirements.
