FUNDRAISER | Funeral for Katherine Reyes, 20 Killed in Drunk Driving Accident, ANC 8D Chairperson Charged

I just heard about this, and it just breaks my heart.

There is a GoFundMe to help the family with funeral costs for 20-year-old Katherine Reyes. She was killed during a drunk driving accident on March 5, 2022, involving the Chairperson of ANC 8D, Devon Lesesne. I know Ward 8 is filled with kind and sympathetic people who would want to assist this family during their grief.

A few words from Cris

On the night of 05 March 2022 our precious Katherine Reyes (20 yr old) life was taken from us. A man (Devon Lesesne) made the decision to get in his car and drive while intoxicated under the influence and take Katherine’s life. Katherine was a daughter, niece, cousin, and friend who was beginning her journey in life. Our family is asking for your help to raise at least $20,000 in memory of our beloved Katherine to support the funeral costs. Prayers, thoughts and financial support are greatly appreciated.
All donations will go to her mom Esmeralda Reyes.
we are very grateful and thankful for the support from everyone. Thank you!

The driver of the Honda has been identified as Katherine A. Reyes, 20. Geller said she was seated inside her vehicle when it was hit by the driver of the Buick. Reyes died at the scene.
Reyes, who was born in Virginia, had relocated with her mom to Alabama, but according to her aunt she moved back to the area in August after “missing her family too much.”
”I was on my way to give her help and as we arrived there at the scene her car was in flames,” Reyes’ brother Walter Reyes said. “I remember telling her help is on the way.”
The driver of the Buick — Devon L. Lesesne, 31, of Washington, D.C. — suffered minor injuries in the crash, Geller said. State police arrested Lesene for DUI manslaughter, refusal to take a breath test, and for driving on the shoulder.
Lesesne was recently elected chairperson for Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8D. He replaced Alyse Newhouse in January, and was congratulated in a Feb. 23 Facebook post by the D.C.Young Democrats, for whom he serves as vice president.
