Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) seeks (2) enthusiastic, adaptable individuals to serve two key roles in our programs team from March 11th- November 13th:

Youth Programs Educator (40 hours per week) will work with Washington Youth Garden (WYG) to lead our SPROUT (Science Program Reaching OUT) and Green Ambassadors (GAP) programs. During the 2020 season, this position will shift between leading SPROUT field trips (primarily serving PK-5 students) in the spring and fall, to preparing for and then leading the Green Ambassadors internship program (serving high school students) in the late spring and summer and its extension, GAP Guild, in the fall.

Youth and Family Programs Educator (32 hours per week plus one Saturday a month) will work closely with the WYG Program and Garden teams to lead and help coordinate all SPROUT field trips (over 4,000 students per year). They will also support families visiting the garden through structured monthly 2 hour Family Garden Day programs, and by updating and creating unstructured activities they can participate in independently. They will have the opportunity to build garden knowledge, learn new teaching and group management techniques, and work directly with youth (primarily PK-5) in our one-acre garden at the U.S. National Arboretum.

These positions will work closely with the WYG Program and Garden teams to support all garden-based programs. They will have the opportunity to build garden knowledge, learn new teaching and group management techniques, and work directly with youth of all ages in our one-acre garden at the U.S. National Arboretum.

The mission of the Washington Youth Garden is to nurture curious minds and healthy bodies by connecting youth to food, the land, and each other.
