Feb 18 | Lane Closures on Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue SE

(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is alerting all stakeholders to expect construction at the Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue SE Intersection, and along Pennsylvania Avenue SE from Potomac Avenue to Barney Circle. The following construction activity will take place beginning on February 18, 2025, weather permitting.

  • Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue SE Intersection – Crews will begin work on the pedestrian islands at this intersection. Construction activities will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work at this intersection taking place in Phase 1 is anticipated to begin on February 18 and extend to May 2025. 

  • Pennsylvania Avenue SE (1500 and 1600 blocks) Crews will begin construction with long-term eastbound lane closures in these two blocks as a part of the first phase of work. The work in this phase is anticipated to begin on February 18 and extend to May 2025. 

Please expect delays. Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area. 

The completed project will optimize traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety for neighborhood pedestrians and transit users of the Potomac Avenue Metrorail Station and the numerous area bus stops.
