Feb 16 | #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop at Capitol View Library
We are offering monthly themed #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshops to encourage a healthy mental relationship with self expression and applied art in a safe and conscious environment. We believe that self care is a positive habit and we use DIY projects in our creative community as a way to "put in the work" that is needed to maintain our emotional well-being.
Our workshops are held in the Marshall Heights community of Ward 7 SE, Washington, DC-- an area with a rich local history, at the Capitol View Neighborhood Library. This DC Public Library is only steps away from Benning Road Metrorail Station.
February's theme is Self Care + Space.
This workshop is all about connecting with your everyday environment, to improve your mood, promote creativity and to make self care a daily ritual with very little effort. We provide the tools needed to make personalized mini terracotta pots (decorated in your own, unique fashion) and filled with a live cactus of your choice!
Cacti plants have numerous benefits. Adding cacti to your home, helps to keep the air you breathe fresh and remove toxins from the environment. Plants absorb our respiratory waste (carbon dioxide), and they convert it into plant carbohydrates to build strong bodies that in turn create pure, clean, life-empowering oxygen for our brains to work their best.
These workshops are FREE, space is limited and we accept suggested donations of $15 per craft item -- to keep future #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop attendance free of charge for local, underserved individuals on a journey to maintain their mental health through creative well-being.
Save your space today! We will have light refreshments available and we start craft instruction at 2pm.
