This position is located in the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, Community Recreation Division. The work requires knowledge of, and the skills necessary for implementation of, a variety of recreational programs and activities. The work also requires the ability to interact and serve diverse groups of program participants and community members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent of this position will serve as a Recreation Specialist in a recreation center and will work closely with the supervisor in all facets of delivering high quality recreation programs and services. Specifically, the incumbent assists the supervisor in the daily inspection of all equipment and facilities to ascertain degree of safety and security; brings to the attention of the supervisor all detected hazardous conditions and initiates work orders for repairs. The incumbent will also assist in providing customer service to visitors of the recreation center by responding to comments, questions, and complaints and sets examples of citizenship. 

The incumbent will plan, coordinate and lead daily indoor and outdoor recreation programs and/or activities. Maintains such records as attendance, program activities, volunteer participation, and special events activities; assists in supervising youth and adult athletic activities and helps to maintain order and discipline; plans and implements special events; assists the supervisor in developing and carrying out a successful recreation program by attending various neighborhood meetings, maintaining frequent contact with neighborhood groups and businesses to stimulate interest in the support of daily and/or special events.
