INTRODUCTION
This position is located in the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The Government of the District of Columbia is a large and services complex organization providing essential to normal life in a essential to nonnallife in a large highly congested and cosmopolitan urban community which must be maintained and governed at a standard consistent with its status as the Nation's Capital. The District of Columbia Government is unique among municipalities in that it provides those services normally associated with city, county and state governments.

The agency acquires and coordinates public and private funding to improve housing, community, and economic development in the District. As one of the key officials of the District of Columbia Government, the Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development is responsiblefor the development, coordination and implementation of policy, plans and programs; development of the annual and long term housing and community development work programs, budgets and legislative program; and the administration of laws pertaining to housing and community development. Working with the agency's Director, the Deputy Director provides executive direction and supervision for all housing and community development programs: is responsible for the coordination of District of Columbia housing and community development activities with other elements of D.C. Government, surrounding jurisdictions, federal agencies, public and private groups, and serves as principal advisor. The mission of the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is to create and preserve opportunities for affordable housing and economic development and to revitalize underserved communities in the District of Columbia.
