Many Washingtonians have fond memories of The New Thing Art and Architecture Center in Adams Morgan in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Young people participated in dozens of activities – from African dance and drumming with Melvin Deal to being an attendee of one of the weekly New Thing’s Jazz Workshops at St. Margaret’s Church that featured such artists as Roberta Flack and Chuck Brown among many others.
Discover the museum's extensive collection of art and artifacts from this iconic 1960s/‘70s center for Black arts and culture.
