Nov 18 | Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge Project Public Meeting

(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has announced that the third public meeting for the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge, originally scheduled for November 16, 2023, will be postponed until December 18, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. This is due to unforeseen utility work delays that have affected the scheduled meeting and subsequent work. On December 18, the public will meet to discuss upcoming temporary, off-peak closures of DC-295 to install the new pedestrian bridge. Information on how to attend this meeting will be published closer to the meeting date.

This public meeting will give residents and stakeholders an opportunity to learn from DDOTproject representatives about construction timelines, what to expect during construction, and maintenance of traffic plans. Once completed, the project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Kenilworth Avenue NE (DC-295) and adjacent service roads with a new bridge. This new bridge will improve connectivity and pedestrian access for residents in Ward 7 neighborhoods, such as Mayfair, Parkside, Eastland Gardens, and the surrounding communities of Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue. It also will have increased vertical clearance and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps, as well as improved structural integrity.
