Project Description
The goal of this project is to bring vibrant art to our temporary office at 633 Howard Road that ties into the Anacostia community, celebrates the newly opened Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, and begins to establish an extension of the arts and culture district to our development corridor at the Bridge District.
In addition, the project is intended to be a partnership with Project Create and will include a teaching opportunity through at least 5 hours of workshops/trainings with 19 - 24-year-old students, either at the Project Create Arts Center or onsite at the mural location. Project Create students who successfully complete the workshops/trainings will be invited to participate during the painting phase and serve as artist assistants to be paid at a rate of $15/hour to paint, which is included in the project budget.
The mural location is located at 633 Howard Road SE next to Cedar Tree Academy. The two wall areas of the temporary office (outlined in red below) are available for bid. Area #1 faces Cedar Tree Academy and Howard Road and is approximately 60 ft x 8 ft (480 sf, including windows). Area #2 faces Howard Road and is approximately 35 ft x 8 ft (280 sf, including windows).
