DDOT seeks Traffic System Operator - $45k to $60k

This position is located in the District Department of Transportation, (DDOT), Operations Administration.  The purpose of this position is to maintain situational awareness within the District of Columbia in relation to Traffic Management and Operations. The Traffic System Operator will work to analyze, recognize, and monitor incidents and potentially emerging incidents that will or could affect major traffic routes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Monitors operation and function of the Traffic Management System. Primary responsibility is to be aware of but not limited to, Special Events, Traffic Incidents, Traffic Congestion, Construction Sites and Utility Work Zones. Operates the closed-circuit television surveillance system and the computerized sub-systems that support the surveillance system. Uses Phone or two-way radio to contact appropriate party-maintenance or engineering personnel to respond to operational or traffic events. Serves as Dispatcher in Main Traffic Control Center for Roadway Operations Patrol Units. Alerts traffic signal maintenance personnel to respond to traffic signal incidents. Maintains and update location and status of all traffic incidents, as well as recording of damaged assets.

Receives, evaluates and establishes priority of, and assigns incoming trouble calls to available service units from various agencies.  Performs a mixture of typing and investigative work for the Division which requires knowledge of specialized subject matter relating to: the responsibilities of various DDOT and DPW activities and contents and use of the Division's records of the operations and maintenance of the transportation network system.  Responsible for daily data entry of Incident reports into a computerized database. Maintains the level of quality records entered into a database. Maintains record of status of each event, closes out events when appropriate.
