Job Summary

The position is located in the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH). The mission of DCCAH is to provide grants, programs and educational activities that encourages diverse artistic expressions and learning opportunities, so that all District of Columbia residents and visitors can experience the rich culture of our city.

The purpose of this position is to provide the research, collection, and organization of on and offsite artwork/exhibits and provide support on all projects related to collection in whole or in part.

Duties and Responsibilities

Spearheads the daily curation of DCCAH gallery spaces by finding art, mediums, and artists to spotlight. Creates the annual calendar of exhibitions for exhibit spaces and maintains the upkeep of the galleries before, during and after shows are hung. Coordinates the intake of artwork in every situation that involves exhibitions. Curates on-going special projects as needed. Collaborates extensively with creative, editorial, community, and executive teams to find and highlight public art forms that are both commonly recognized and cutting edge. Leads efforts to maintain the integrity and accuracy of various categorizations and informational facets.

Assists and advises the Executive Director, Deputy Director and APP Program Manager on matters concerning collections, their documentation, care, and disposition. Collaborates with internal departments, donors, lenders, and artists to ensure a rich and vital program. Manages the Art Bank, Art Bank Collection Working Group, Curatorial Grant Program, and selects public art projects, grants, and contract processes. Monitors incoming applications, answers questions, provides instructional guides and technical assistance to applicants experiencing difficulties with the application process and/or portal. Monitors the panel process to select successful applicants for award.
