Join the MahoganyBooks team for our Back-to-School edition of Books for the Block. On August 24, 2019, MahoganyBooks, supported by a generous donation from The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, will be giving away free books to local youth to promote literacy.

Over the years, MahoganyBooks has partnered with area organizations and media outlets to support and promote our Books for the Block Campaign. This year with the support of The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation and Forever Free Books, MahoganyBooks will be giving away over 300 children books written by or about African Americans. It's our goal this year that we make available to local youth books that are imaginative, fun, and empowering. Most importantly we are making accessible books that speak to them as children, not as victims or people in need of hard lessons on death and trauma.

We encourage our DMV family, especially those in South East, D.C., to swing by MahoganyBooks for a fun afternoon featuring FREE books, a story time, and maybe some cake too. Join us in the lobby of the Anacostia Arts Center from 12PM to 2PM.

While we will endeavor to ensure every child that visits leaves with (1) one children's book, we are only able to giveaway free books while supplies last. Books will be given away on a first come, first served basis.
