April 13 | Last day to apply for a free DC Medical Marijuana Card

Effective Saturday, April 1, 2023, DC patients and caregivers must have a valid registration to purchase medical cannabis from a licensed dispensary in DC.

Registration fees for DC residents are waived through Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Due to the pandemic, DC patients and caregivers have been permitted to use registrations that lapsed on or after March 1, 2020, to purchase medical cannabis.

DC residents are strongly encouraged to apply online.

Online applicants receive a digital registration immediately upon applying that may be used to purchase cannabis from a licensed retailer for up to 30-days while their application is processed.

Approved applicants are mailed a physical registration valid for two (2) years from the date of issuance.

Non-DC residents with a valid registration from a medical cannabis program in a jurisdiction extended reciprocity may continue to use their registration to purchase cannabis. The complete list of states and territories extended reciprocity is available online.

Alternatively, non-DC residents may register for a temporary patient registration valid for 30-days. The fee is $30 per valid period.

There is no limit to the number of times an individual can register, but they must submit a new online application and pay using a new custom paylink each time. Previously used paylinks cannot be reused.
