ADOPT ME! Maeve, a sweet and high-energy dog
Maeve is a very sweet and high-energy dog. She was seized for being abused and was badly malnourished. We nursed her back to health, and we have seen that she will show aggression around food, so we are hoping to find someone who is experienced with this type of issue. The person will need to make sure that they do not take things away from her willy nilly, and have a strategy to manage her around high-value things, as well as be able to read her body language accurately, to make sure she is not guarding from them at the time, so that she learns to trust the person. We have been working with her on this, but she is still doing some guarding of high-value food so progress there is slow and management may always be needed to stay safe with her. Otherwise, she is a very sweet dog, but she can get excitable and mouthy sometimes, and she's large, so the adopter should have some leash handling skills.
Maeve will need some training and patience to work with her on these behaviors but is utterly cute and worth it. Please let us know if you are interested in coming to meet her, and we can figure out a time when one of our staff members is available. She's listed as no children and also no other animals, because of the food guarding and jumpy behavior.
