Humane Rescue Alliance Humane Law Enforcement Officers are still in need of the public’s assistance to find the person or persons involved in a horrific case of alleged animal cruelty.
Shepherd, a 9-month-old puppy was abandoned across the street from One Eight Distilling on Okie St. NE in the early morning hours on July 10. Surveillance footage shows the man driving a four door, dark-colored sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, missing its hood.
Weighing just 15 pounds and unable to walk, Shepherd was found severely emaciated, suffering from mange, and a secondary skin infection. Following his release from the emergency vet on July 17, Shepherd continues to recover in rehabilitative foster care through the Humane Rescue Alliance. Shepherd is slowly regaining strength and mobility in his hind legs, and now weighs 21 pounds.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $5,000 reward, in addition to the $5,000 reward HRA is offering, for information leading to an arrest. The HSUS commitment brings the total reward offered to $10,000.
“We are determined to bring Shepherd’s abuser to justice, but we need help from the community to do so,” said Chris Schindler, Vice President of Field Services at the Humane Rescue Alliance. “We hope this reward will motivate any witnesses or others with information about this crime to come forward immediately.”
