Free West African Dance Classes for Seniors at THEARC

West African Dance Class
Specializing in dances from Guinea Mali and Senegal. The class will consist of a total body warm-up from head to toe and instruction in one of the popular dances from West Africa. This class will increase stamina, stretch and flexibility. It will also strengthen the arms, back and legs. African Dance is a great overall workout.
Repertoire Class
Students will learn choreography from Coyaba's Repertory taught by Sylvia Doumah (Founder and Artistic Director) and the 2015 recipient of the POLA NIRENEKA AWARD & 2015 Finalists for the DC Mayor's Award for outstanding contributions to the field of dance.
Students will work on staging, performance and stage presence.
Students will be asked to perform in two or three events.
Repertory class is not mandatory but encouraged! Give it a try!
Students can register upon entering class.
Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water and a snack -- you will work up an appetite!
