Step Xplosion tour returns with free performances in all
8 wards of DC from August 18 – September 26, 2015
Washington, DC – Step Afrika!, Washington DC’s largest African American arts organization, is kicking off its season with the third annual Step Xplosion tour. Featuring the music of DJ Beauty and the Beatz alongside Step Afrika!’s critically-acclaimed dancers, the tour will bring passion, energy and excitement to all 8 wards across the District, providing free shows to the community and welcoming residents from all backgrounds to enjoy the uniquely American dance tradition of stepping. All events are free to the public.
The tour launches on August 18th at THEARC Theater in Ward 8 and culminates at Raymond Recreation Center in Ward 4 on September 26th. In addition to Step Afrika!, the finale performance at Raymond Recreation will feature some of the DMV’s most impressive step talent; Howard University step teams, teams from African-American Greek-letter fraternities and sororities, and some incredible high-school step squads.
“The Step Xplosion tour is all about community, and Step Afrika! is excited to bring our performance to every ward in the city,” says C. Brian Williams, Founder & Executive Director of Step Afrika! and a recipient of the Mayor’s Art Award for Innovation in the Arts. “We hope that DC families will come not only to watch Step Afrika! perform, but also to participate and dance with us; it’s going to be a party!”
