Jan 30 - Feb 7 | Thunderous Productions presents Chapter Two @ Anacostia Arts Center
Thunderous Productions proudly presents Neil Simon’s semi-autobiographical Chapter Two directed by Rick Starkweather.
Neil Simon wrote the Chapter Two about his whirlwind romance and marriage to TV and film star Marsha Mason. The play begins by introducing the audience to George Schneider – a novelist, and recent widower – who has just returned from Europe, where he went to escape the ghost of his late wife, Barbara. Next we meet Jennie Malone – a recently divorced soap opera and stage actress – who has just returned from Jamaica where she was nursing her broken heart. Jennie and George meet and fall in love – intense passionate love and decide to marry only two weeks after their first meeting. When the dust settles, will they be able to deal with their tragic pasts and keep up their new exuberant relationship? Chapter Two offers audiences the quick wit and humor they expect from a Neil Simon show, it is also at times candidly raw and downright tragic.
Starkweather uses an eclectic mix of 1970′s American music throughout the show that will have AAC audiences tapping their toes and humming along throughout the show. The intimate size of the center’s blackbox theater will bring onlookers into Jennie and George’s New York City apartments and immerse them into some of the happiest and most melancholy parts of the pair’s lives.
Thunderous Productions has been putting on community theater in Prince George’s, Montgomery and Howard Counties since 2008. The company is very excited to perform inside of the beltway for the first time. They hope to add the District, and specifically Anacostia, as a regular performance location.
