THEARC Partners with Skyland Workforce Center
From THEARC website:
The Skyland Workforce Center is a joint project of the development and construction team for the Skyland Town Center and Workplace DC, a group of local non-profit organizations that provide employment-related services. The goal of the Center is to co-locate services and programs on-site that connect job seekers with positions and services that can help them to successfully obtain and retain employment with training and referral services.
Many Center visitors will be looking for jobs with the Skyland Town Center construction. The Center will assist with placing individuals with construction-related positions on the project, but will also offer a broad range of services to help individuals with placement in other jobs and to improve education and skills.
Five nonprofits will be providing services at the Center:
LIFT-DC is providing case management
Jubilee Jobs is doing job placement
Southeast Ministry is providing GED tutoring and adult basic education
STRIVE-DC is offering job readiness training
Byte Back is providing computer literacy training (classes will start in January)
The Center will open on Thursday November 20 at 2509 Good Hope Road SE, across the street from the Skyland Town Center development project.
The Skyland Town Center is an exciting mixed-use project now under development in Southeast DC. The site is bordered by Alabama Avenue, Naylor Road and Good Hope Road SE. Conceived more than 25 years ago by the residents of Ward 7, the town center will include approximately 340,000 square feet of first-floor retail space and 480 residential units set in a vibrant, town square setting. Construction on the first phase will begin in early fall of 2015 with delivery by the end of 2017.
