Today | Generations Festival @ Gateway DC - Free!


The District of Columbia Office on Aging is proud to announce the 2014 Generations Community Festival: Celebration of Life.  This Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Gateway DC Pavilion, located at 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. SE, Washington, DC 20032.  The 2014 Generations Community Festival will deliver entertainment, empowerment and education to all generations.
Created as a way to bring families together, the Generations Community Festival will also provide resources for older adults and persons living with disabilities in the District’s Community. Attendees of the Festival will enjoy live music, health and fitness activities, seminars, a beauty and grooming lounge, kid activities, a food pavilion, vendors and so much more. The 2014 Generations Community Festival is fun for the entire family.
Admission for the 2014 Generations Community Festival is FREE. Transportation will be provided for seniors (60 years and older). Those interested in transportation should contact the DC Office on Aging at (202) 724-5622

Resource Partners Fair: 
Partners from DCOA and DC Office of Planning will provide residents with information regarding services, programs and activities available to DC residents and their families.
 Family Health & Fitness: (3) Sessions 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM
 Hosted by David Rachal (pronounced Ra-Shell) of Fighting Trim Fitness, participants will learn how to incorporate exercise in their daily routine using easily accessible household items. David, a Biggest Loser certified trainer, and his team will have activities to fit various levels of fitness and will demonstrate how families can work out together.
 Aging in Place Interior Design: A Study in Interior Design - 11:30 AM-12:30 PM
 In this seminar hosted by Trystin Francis of the Trystin Kier (pronounced “Key Air”) Company, participants will learn how to create beautiful functional spaces within their homes that will grow with them as they age in place. Trystin, an ASID certified interior designor has been featured on the OWN Network and decorated DC Mayor Vincent Gray’s office in the Wilson Building.
 Long-Term Care Planning and Support Seminar: 11:30 AM-12:30 PM
 This session hosted by the DCOA, will discuss the challenges that many adult children face whennewly learning to care for parents and older relatives. Participants will leave with access to resources and solutions to help aid in the care of their loved ones.
 Ageless Grooming Lounge: 11:00 AM-3:00 PM
 Hosted by Celebrating You, the Spa, the Ageless Grooming Lounge will provide women and men withbeauty and grooming demonstrations, beauty product samples tips, and beauty techniques. Available services include: mini facials, hand & chair massages.
 A Focus on Sustainability:
 Freedom Farms DC partnered with DC Office of Health will be hosting gardening and health eatingworkshops demonstrating best practices in maintain a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Freedom FarmsDC is a DC minority, owned aquaponics growing model that has an eco-innovation campus that includes yoga, fitness camps, spin classes, smoothie bar, Small Biz incubator space, restaurant space,smoothie bar. Participants will receive cooking and grocery shopping tips and free seedlings to plant in their home gardens.
 Pop Up Clothing Boutique presented by A Wider Circle: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
A Wider Circle is a DC based non-profit organization that collects business clothing to distribute to individuals whom are rejoining the workforce from long-term unemployment or whom may have had economic challenges in obtaining suitable clothing for work or church. Men and women who visit this pop boutique will be able to choose two complete professional outfits to take home at no cost.
 Whole Foods Saturday Market
Discover new foods, tastes & ideas for healthy eating at the Whole Foods "Pop-Up Saturday Market. Event attendees will be able to grocery shop while attending the festival.
 Fun for the Whole Family
 There are activities for kids of all ages including a moon bounce, board games, mini golf and corn hole games, photo booth, food trucks and merchandise vendors.
